Eligibility Requirements
Anyone can enroll in Wound Management Training Courses; however, only students meeting the certifying body's criteria are eligible to take the wound certification examination and receive certification credentials.
Please note: It is not required that the basic course is completed before enrolling in the advanced course.
Wound Certification Information
The wound certification examinations and credentials are provided by the American Academy of Wound Management (AAWM). The AAWM is a national inter-disciplinary certifying board for healthcare professionals involved in wound care.
The Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) is an advanced certification in wound management. Healthcare professionals with either a Bachelors, Doctoral or Master's degree in a life sciences-related field and who have three or more years of clinical wound care experience are eligible to take the CWS examination.
The CWS exams are held in April and October. There are over 700 testing centers nationwide. For more information on eligibility requirements and test information visit the American Academy of Wound Management (AAWM).
